About Retired Men's Fellowship of Greater Flint

History

"Believing that life is a great adventure and to live it happily and usefully a broad culture is necessary.   We  therefore unite ourselves into a Club for mental improvement, physical well-being, and good use of leisure time."

The year was 1963 when a group of fully or partially retired men from the Flint/ Genesee County area organized what is now the Retired Men's Fellowship of Greater Flint.  The club met at the YMCA until 1979 when the Sarvis Center, that was owned by the Flint Board of Education, became the site of meetings until it closed in December 2013.  Since January 2014 the Flint Institute of Music has graciously opened their doors to be our home.   Constitution & Bylaws

Who We Are--

Coming from a wide range of careers--business, industry, medicine, law, education, government service, etc., members bring a diversity of interests and experiences.  They share common goals of wanting to stay informed, keep learning, stay engaged in the world around, and enjoy the company of like-minded men.

What We Do

Weekly meetings include guest speakers on a wide range of topics.  Part of the success of the club is the sharing of responsibilities, especially the Monthly Program Chairs who bring quality speakers on an ever changing variety of topics.  Before each meeting there is time for coffee and fellowship.  Members find they enjoy learning about new things even on topics that otherwise might not be of interest.  It's a great way to start the week!

Special Events

In addition to weekly meetings there are three special events to which spouses, significant others and guests are invited:  December Holiday Luncheon, Ladies Day in February, and a day trip in June.

Charities We Support

For many years the RMFGF has "passed the can" the first meeting of each month to support the North End Soup Kitchen.  From 1991 through May 2023 a total of nearly $60,000 has been donated to this vital service.  Occasionally a speaker will mention a funding need and our group may respond with a financial contribution as well.
